Arthritis Knee Pain

When a patient is suffering from arthritis knee pain his musculoskeletal system is affected; the joints become very painful and stiff, there is a lot of swelling at the joints and the joint cartilage gets damaged. Cartilage between the bones is what makes sure that there is no pain thanks to the bones coming into contact with each other in our joints. Therefore, it has the same needs as other organs and glands; cartilage cells are called chondrocytes. New cartilage cells or chondrocytes are replaced with new ones as they die.

The body can handle only a certain amount of cartilage cell replacement when there is inflammation the cartilage cells need much faster replacement which sometimes cannot be handled by the body. Cartilage cells are not sufficiently regenerated when there is injury or insufficient nutrition for regenerating new cells. Damage from this condition can also cause joint weakness, instability and deformities and interrupt daily activities. Generally, arthritis knee pain can be treated with physical therapy, medication, and changes to the lifestyle the individual is used to living. The last resort to treat joint problems is the invasive joint replacement therapy and is only resorted to after all other treatments have failed.

Arthritis knee pain is mainly categorized into two types, ‘localized’ and ‘generalized’ depending on which areas are affected (body or the joints); they are then sub categorized. One of the sub-categories is localized conditions which only affect the soft tissue that surrounds the bones or joints, and is used to relate to conditions like tendonitis or bursitis. A sub-category of localized arthritis knee pain affects one or some of the joints like hip or knee joints. In a general sense, the disease affects the soft tissue and muscle where there isn’t any evidence of inflammation or swelling. Fibromyalgia, even though it isn’t associated with joint damage, is a very common type of arthritis knee pain which can be placed under this particular category.

The second one is known to include all of the conditions that involve inflammation that affects the whole body. Rheumatoid arthritis, gout and psoriatic arthritis knee pain come under this category. The other kinds of arthritis knee pain are vasculitis (any organ); polymyositis (muscles); and systemic lupus erythematosus (skin, kidneys, or other organs).
